Certamen for Beginners Practice Exam

Ascanius, the son of Aeneas, is credited with the founding of Alba Longa, an ancient city in Latium. According to Roman mythology and historical sources, after Aeneas settled in Italy following the Trojan War, Ascanius established Alba Longa as a significant center at a later point in their lineage. This city holds great importance in Roman history as it is considered the precursor to Rome itself. The narrative surrounding Ascanius and Alba Longa highlights the continuation of Trojan heritage and the origins of the Roman people, reinforcing the deep connections between myth and the early history of Rome.

The other options do not align with Ascanius' historical and mythological role. Rome was famously associated with Romulus and Remus, later in the timeline, while Carthage was founded by Phoenicians and has no relation to Ascanius. Pompeii, known for its volcanic destruction, also does not tie into Ascanius' legacy. These contexts underline why the founding of Alba Longa is the correct association for Ascanius.
